daily apple rumors AAPLBigger: iPhone fans looking for more memory capacity in their handsets may get their wish when Apple (AAPL) unveils its first “phablet” later this year, AppleInsider notes. A Chinese media source says that Apple will raise the top memory configuration for its 5.5-inch iPhone 6 model to 128GB. Current iPhones are available with memory capacities of 16GB, 32GB and 64GB only, while iPads comes with 128GB configuration option. Apple is widely expected to launch its next generation iPhone in two sizes: one with a 4.7-inch screen and the other with a 5.5-inch display, Apple’s first step into phablet-sized phones. According to the new report, the 128GB configuration would only be available on the larger iPhone and is meant to add another point of difference between the two iPhone 6 models. Another recent report suggests that Apple will not release 16GB versions of either the 4.7-inch or the 5.5-inch iPhone 6. Most analysts expect Apple to release the new iPhones in September.

Image: Product Red wants to make clear that when U2 frontman Bono chided Apple for not prominently displaying the (RED) logo on its products, he was making a joke, 9to5Mac notes. Bono was on stage with Apple head designer Jony Ive earlier this week at the Cannes Lions festival in France when he made the remarks. Noting that Apple had raised $75 million for the HIV/AIDS charity, Bono reportedly needled Ive by holding up an iPad with the (RED) logo somewhat concealed by the device and asking: “Where’s the (Red) branding? Nobody can see that. This is modesty run amok. This is the Apple way. They’re like a religious cult.” With media outlets quick to pounce on the story, (RED) issued a post on its blog to clarify Bono’s remarks. “Humor doesn’t always travel out of context, some of Bono’s teasing and faux outrage at Apple’s modesty were reported as actual criticism of the company,” (RED) explained. “Nothing could be further from the truth of course. Bono has been one of Apple’s biggest supporters, pushing back publicly on those who have made negative assumptions about the company’s charitable work, simply because they don’t shout it from the rooftops. That modesty is their right, and in many ways admirable.”

Released: While Apple may be dropping the 16GB configuration from its upcoming iPhones, it has just added that option to its iPod lineup, MacRumors notes. Apple has just launched a 16GB fifth generation iPod Touch. The new iPod Touch is available in six colors and is priced at $199. A previous 16GB model, priced at $229, had only been available in silver but did not feature a rear camera. In addition to adding the lower-memory entry-level model, Apple has trimmed the prices of its 32GB and 64GB iPod Touch models. The 32GB iPod Touch now sells for $249, while the 64GB iPod Touch retails for $299.
