The company has updated its Google Maps Engine Lite to My Maps and is letting users contribute their own maps to the service. This will allow users to upload maps for visting certain areas. This can include sightseeing and maps that lead to other interesting locations, reports Mashable.

The custom mapping tool has been upgraded to make it easier to use. Those using the tool can now work on different layers, import spreadsheets and share maps via Google Docs. The update includes the web version of the service and the Android app, Mashable notes.

Google Maps also now allows users to add missing locations to the service. This will allow anyone to fill in information for a location that isn’t listed in the service. Users that add missing locations will receive updates about changes to the location’s information via their Gmail accounts, reports The Next Web.
