The WireLurker malware has reportedly affected roughly 356,000 users. The malware made its way to iOS devices that were connected to infected Mac and MacBooks via USB. The malware originated from Maiyadi App Store, which is an unofficial app store for OS X, reports Forbes.

According to Forbes, there were 467 apps on the Maiyadi App Store that carried the WireLurker malware. Several unofficial and pirated versions of legitimate games, such as Angry Birds and Sims 3, carried the malware. Those affected by the malware may have had some information stolen from their iOS devices.

“You are unlikely to be hit with this malware unless you are using a third party OS X app store AND have changed default OS X Security & Privacy settings to ‘Allow apps downloaded from: Anywhere,'” Marc Maiffret, chief technology officer at BeyondTrust, told USA Today.
