The study of the top five Facebook scams was conducted over a two-year period by Bitdefender, an antivirus software creator. The study looked at different habits and behaviors from Facebook users and found that many fall for the same scams over and over again. There was a strong connection between victims and users that don’t know much about the social media platform, reports HotforSecurity.

Here are the top five Facebook scams from the Bitdefender study, as listed by HotforSecurity.

  1. Guess who viewed your profile?
  2. Facebook functionality scams.
  3. Giveaway scams.
  4. Celebrity scams.
  5. Atrocity videos.

“Given the high number of hackers and cyber-criminals, it’s hard to eradicate these scams completely,” Catalin Cosoi, cheif security strategist for Bitdefender, told Tech Times. “Improved user education should be a common effort, starting from Facebook to the general media. Companies should also train their employees for better security practices when it comes to social media.”
