Thousands of EBAY Job Cuts May Be Coming in 2015

It’s looking like eBay (EBAY) job cuts will include thousands of workers in 2015.

ebay-job-cutsSources close to the matter told The Wall Street Journal, that the eBay job cuts could result in as many as 3,000 employees being put out of work. This would have the company shaving off 10% of its workforce and help it reduce costs. Most of the cuts would likely comes from the company’s core marketplace division.

It’s believed that the eBay job cuts would be part of the company’s plan to prepare for the spin-off of PayPal into its own publicly traded company. Ebay would likely need to reduce its costs after this and cutting jobs is one way to do that. Between itself and PayPal, eBay employed 33,500 in 2013, reports WSJ.

When the eBay, Paypal split occurs, it’s unknown where CEO John Donahoe will go. Two sources close to the matter claim that he plans to join PayPal’s board of directors, Recode notes.

EBAY shares were up 3% as of Thursday afternoon.
