Starbucks Roastery: SBUX Opens 15,000 Square-Feet Mega-Store

Starbucks (SBUX) has announced the opening of its first Starbucks Roastery on Friday.

starbucks-roastery-sbuxThe first ever Starbucks Roastery was opened in Seattle, Washington. The new facility takes up 15,000 square feet and offers taste tests of the company’s Reserve coffees. It will acts as the sole supplier of Reserve coffee to all stores in the world that sell it.

The Starbucks Roastery roasts coffee on one of two roasters. The freshly roasted beans are be used by baristas at a bar to create unique, handcrafted drinks. The building also houses a large smart glass, called the “Coffee Passion Projection Wall”, that shows images of coffee from the company’s farm in Costa Rica.

“This is a real-life Willy Wonka experience with coffee as the heart and soul, where customers will see coffee being moved through the roasting process right before their eyes,” Liz Muller, vice president of creative global design for the company, said about the Starbucks Roastery.

SBUX shares were up 2% as of Friday afternoon.
