Apple to Build $2B Data Center in Mesa, Arizona

Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) has announced plans to build a $2 billion data center in Mesa, Arizona.

The huge Apple data center will be made from the GT Advanced Technologies sapphire glass plant. GT filed for bankruptcy last year. The new data center will act as the company’s “command center” for iCloud, reports Fortune.

As with all of Apple data centers, the once being built in Arizona will run on completely renewable energy. This will include the use a nearby solar farm that was recently constructed. The tech company says that the data center will bring over 600 construction and engineering jobs to the area, Fortune notes.

“Apple is by far one of the most innovative and successful companies in the world,” Arizona Governor Doug Ducey told CNN Money. “Its decision to bring this new facility to Mesa is a huge win for Arizona.”
