Sony (NYSE:SNE) has announced a new pair of smartglasses, called “SmartEyeglass”, similar to Google (NASDAQ:GOOG,NASDAQ:GOOGL) Glass.

sony-smarteyeglass-sne-goog-googlThe SmartEyeglass will go on sale in the United States, United Kingdom, Germany and Japan in March. The developers version of the Sony smartglasses will cost $840, a far cry from the $1,500 for the Explorer version of Google Glass, and are currently available for preorder in the UK and Germany, reports Cnet.

The SmartEyeglass displays green text on screen and has a battery that will last for about two hours and 30 minutes. The device has thick frames and isn’t wireless. Instead, it has a wire that runs down to a small case that contains the speaker, battery, microphone and touch controls, Cnet notes.

It’s unknown how much the SmartEyeglass will cost when it’s released to the general public. However, Sony did say that it plans to give it a retail release sometime in 2016, reports Daily Mail.
