Amazon (AMZN) Sues to Stop Fake Reviews

Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN) is suing a number of website owners that sell fake product reviews.

amazonThe retailer is cracking down on sites that offer 4- and 5-star customer reviews of Amazon products for a premium. The lawsuit was filed in the King County Superior Court.

Jay Gentile — buyazonreviews.com operator — was mentioned in the suit, along with the operators of buyamazonreviews.com, bayreviews.net and buyreviewsnow.com.

The lawsuit alleges trademark violations, unfair competition and deceptive acts. Amazon is seeking damages, including restitution.

“Amazon strictly prohibits any attempt to manipulate customer reviews and actively polices its website to remove false, misleading, and inauthentic reviews,” the company said.

AMZN stock is up 0.4% Thursday.
