Amazon Prime Video to Follow Netflix to Japan

Amazon (AMZN) is following Netflix (NFLX) to Japan with Amazon Prime Video.

amazon-prime-video-japan-amzn-nflxAmazon Prime Video will launch in Japan in September and will be free for Prime users in the country, who pay about $32 a year to for the service. This means that Prime users in Japan will spend roughly $3 a month for the video streaming service, reports Cnet.

News that Amazon Prime Video is coming to Japan comes shortly after Netflix announced that it’s teaming up with wireless provider SoftBank to launch its own service in the country on Sept. 2. Netflix subscribers will have the option to choose from three different plans in the country that will range between $6 and $12 a month, Cnet notes.

The addition of Amazon Prime Video in Japan will bring the total countries that have access to the streaming service up to four. The other countries where the service is available are the United States, the United Kingdom, and Germany. Prime will be available in Japan through certain TVs, mobile apps, tablets and video game consoles, reports StreamingMedia.com.
