The change to Facebook profile pictures is currently being tested, but the social media company says that it will be released to everyone in the near future. Facebook says that the ability for users to make a profile picture a video is a natural evolution of profiles.

Facebook profile pictures as videos can only be a few seconds long and will loop continuously. The company describes the videos as mobile friendly and says it made the decision to add them after seeing an increase in video watching from mobile devices.

After expiration, the profile picture will return to what the user declares to be their default picture. The company sugests using this feature for vacations, sporting events or #tbt.
