Adidas (ADDYY) is planning to to open a robot factory next year for making sneakers.

adidas-robots-addyyAdidas’ new robot shoe makers will be placed in its Speedfactory. This factory will be located in Ansbach. Germany. The company is moving its production closer to its headquarter and main market so that it can send products to customers faster, reports Reuters.

The new Adidas factory is expected to make its first 500 sneakers in early 2015. Using robots for the manufacturing process is expected to save the company money over hiring employees to do the job. It plans to open more Speedfactories across the world, Reuters notes.

According to Fortune, the raising costs of sneaker materials and production will see Adidas shoes increase in price. The company said that there will be “significant” price increases in many parts of the world.

ADDYY shares were down 1% as of Thursday morning.
