Brazil attempted to block Facebook’s (FB) WhatsApp for two days.

brazil-whatsapp-fbThe blocking of WhatsApp in Brazil started at midnight on Thursday and was put in place by a judge. This judge ordered the ban because the company refused to provide details for a criminal case. The app is used by half the country’s population, reports The Wall Street Journal.

The WhatsApp ban in Brazil didn’t last its full two days. Another judge, not related to the criminal case mentioned above, lifted the ban today. He said banning the app wasn’t the proper way to go about things and instead suggested fining the company for withholding information in the case, WSJ notes.

Jan Koum, CEO of WhatsApp, said the company was “disappointed” by the ban that was placed on it and that it was a “short-sighted decision” that cut users in Brazil off from the service, reports Cnet.
