MasterCard Launches ‘Pay With Selfie’ Option

MasterCard Inc (MA) is launching a new system that lets users confirms payments with a selfie.

MasterCard, Selfie, MAThe new option for making payments will allow customers to look at their cameras when shopping online from their PCs, smartphones or tablets to confirm orders. Users must blink at the camera for it to recognize them, reports BBC News.

Users of MasterCard’s pay with selfie option will still have to enter their normal credit card information online for purchases. However, any service that requires additional authorization can be bypassed with the selfie. The company hopes this option will add more security to transactions than passwords do, BBC News notes.

MasterCard isn’t just stopping its payment authorization efforts with selfies. The company is also reportedly developing a bracelet that reads a person’s heartbeat to let them make payments online, reports Financial Times.
