Google Play Family Library: How Does It Work?

Google Play‘s (GOOG,GOOGL) Family Library app is now available for download.

The online store announced that about 12 countries will have access to the app, including Brazil, Canada, Germany, the U.S., Japan and the United Kingdom. Up to six family members can share purchased content with each other without having to cover additional fees.

At the moment, apps, games and books can be shared, and there are no rentals permitted. Additionally, sharing apps and other items acquired before July 2 is not possible.

Although the move is good news for the Google Play store, the online app market is still a few steps behind Apple’s App store, which netted four times as much revenue as Google Play.

Alphabet recently launched Android Nougat, which improves the use of notifications, as well as multitasking. Google Play Music also made moves a few months ago, releasing podcasts on April 18.

Google Fiber — an internet service that is about 100 times faster than broadband — continues its expansion as it now exists in more than 25 cities.

A recent development in the company’s search functionalities has left some users dumbfounded, as searching for “presidential candidates” did not reveal Donald Trump as a candidate. Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders were both included in the search.

2016 has been a volatile time for Alphabet shares as GOOG and GOOGL have dipped 2.3% and 2.1% respectively year-to-date.

GOOG stock rose 0.5% Wednesday, while GOOGL stock popped 0.6%.
