A famous psychic named Miss Cleo has died at age 53.

Miss Cleo

The Los Angeles native — whose birth name is Youree Dell Harris — was known for offering card readings and other astrological services between 1997 and 2003. Although she achieved fame for this six-year period, Harris had her troubles with the law due to the nature of her business.

Miss Cleo suffered from colon cancer, which later spread to the rest of her organs and led to her death. The self-proclaimed shaman began her career following an infomercial on television that soon put her in the spotlight, where she claimed she was from Jamaica.

Her psychic service charged customers $4.99 per call despite the fact that she advertised her phone calls as being free the first time around. Due to this scam, Miss Cleo faced a series of lawsuits, including a $500 million suit in one instance.

Video game character Auntie Poulet from the 2002 game Grand Theft Auto: Vice City was voiced by her. Raised as a Catholic, she was in an all-girls school early in life.

Miss Cleo used a 1-900 phone service to offer her services, which some took seriously. Others found the nature of her work deceptive, while others simply appreciated it as entertainment.

She was known under a number of pseudonyms, including LaShawnda Williams, Desiree Canterlaw, Maria Delcampo and Cloemili Harris.

Supper Club Cafe was Miss Cleo’s last time in the spotlight, when she left Seattle with debt and a number of people who were upset at her.
