Facebook Inc: Instagram Finally Acquiesces to Your Basic Pinch-to-Zoom Needs (FB)

In today’s “what took so long??” news, Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) property Instagram announced that it’s finally bringing pinch-to-zoom to its app.

This means that you can now zoom in on photos across the entire app, including your main feed, the “Explore” section and individual profiles.

The feature (if you’d be so generous) is only available for iOS users, so the 100 million or so users rocking Android-powered devices might want to hold their pointer and thumb applause for at least a few more weeks.

As Cady Lang over at Time notes, this is a watershed moment for social media creepers who usually resort to screenshotting a picture so that they can zoom in in their photo app.

But it’s not like Instagram is running in the up-to-date crowd: It’s still missing the ability to display in landscape mode and it doesn’t allow for higher-resolution photos (say, 4K).

These are vital features the app needs to add if it hopes to keep up with Snapchat, and if Instagram Stories is any indication, indeed it does.

FB stock finished the day a quarter of a percent higher.

As of this writing, John Kilhefner did not hold a position in any of the aforementioned securities.
