“When is Google’s birthday?” is a popular question about the Alphabet Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG,GOOGL) search engine today, Sept. 27, 2016.
It doesn’t really come as a surprise that people are wondering “When is Google’s birthday?” today. The search engine is celebrating its 18th birthday with a Google Doodle today. If users click on this Google Doodle, the search engine will look for the answer to that question. It comes up with Sept. 27.
While Sept. 27 has been used many times in the past to celebrate Google’s birthday, that hasn’t always been the case. There are only Google Doodles for its 4th, 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th, 13th, 14th, 16th, 17th, and of course, its 18th birthday. This leaves a few years where the tech company celebrated the birthday event on different days.
Adding further to the confusion over when is Google’s birthday is the tech company’s own official history of its creation. The company’s timeline claims that Larry Page and Sergey Brin registered Google.com as a domain on Sept. 15, 1997. However, it wasn’t until Sept. 4 of the following year that the two filed for incorporation to make it a private company.
Knowing that Google’s origins are closer to Sept. 15 or Sept. 4 doesn’t really matter in the larger scheme of things. The company will likely continue to celebrate its birthday on Sept. 27. Still, being able to provide a more detailed answer to the question “When is Google’s birthday?” might be one of those fun facts that can be brought up around friends or family.
