Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) is launching a new Windows 10 Paint app.

The product is a Universal Windows offering that is sleeker and faster than its predecessor. You can use your pen or finger on a touchscreen to use the app in an easy and convenient manner.

3D objects are quite good in the new Windows 10 Paint app, and users benefit from the fact that the product is faster than before. Cropping images, inserting text and using filters are all options with it.

There are 2D shapes, 2D freehand features and basic 3D shapes that can be used freely and shared. Having the ability to create 3D images with the app would be a massive step forward as 3D printers become more commonplace.

Microsoft’s HoloLens — a virtual reality offering — would benefit from savvy artists who know what they want to do with the product. However, the app also has its downsides.

There is no layering support to the Windows 10 Paint, but the app that was released is an early alpha version, which means the new version may address this. It is also more pixelated than its early adopters would hope.

A free version of the Windows 10 Paint app was uploaded online for anyone to use. Microsoft is also releasing the new Surface tablet later this month, which may go well with the app.

MSFT stock is down 1.7% Tuesday.
