Patagonia, Inc. has announced that it is embracing the spirit of Thanksgiving in a very giving manner.

100% of the company’s proceeds raked in during its Black Friday sale will be donated to charities. Specifically, these proceeds will go towards grassroots environmental groups.

Patagonia CEO Rose Marcarioa wrote on its blog that the company will be shelling out money to these groups due to the fact that they are working hard to help local communities with “our air, water and soil for future generations.”

The charities the company is focusing on includes small, underfunded groups that do some of the heavy lifting in helping to keep the planet clean and sustainable. “The support we can give is more important now than ever,” Marcarioa wrote.

All in all, Patagonia expects sales to amount to over $2 million, which includes proceeds drawn from its website as well as its global stores. The retailer has never made a move quite this bold or generous, but this is quite possibly the best time to make such a move.

We are in a political climate where president-elect Donald Trump is threatening to cut all funding for environmental programs in the U.S., and Patagonia is making a statement that will hopefully inspire other companies with means to make similar moves that could help develop alternate forms of energy.

Kenna specifically said that the move was inspired following the results of the election.
