Starbucks Corporation (NASDAQ:SBUX) is giving customers a lot of options with its 2016 Starbucks holiday cups.
There are 13 different Starbucks holiday cups that customers can get when ordering their drinks. This marks the first time that the coffee chain has offered this many different designs for its holiday cups.
The reason for the increase in Starbucks holiday cups this year is an interesting one. The company released a plain red holiday cup last year so that customers could draw what they wanted on it. There was some controversy around these cups, but many fans showed off their designs online.
The submissions from customers that had decorated their Starbucks holiday cups made the company realize that it could use them as official designs. Starbucks Corporation contacted 13 customers that had submitted designs and asked them for their cups. It redesigned the cups while making as little change as possible to prepare them for this year’s holiday season.
“People will be walking around the street in Shanghai, New York and London carrying these cups,”Dena Blevins, Creative Director at Starbucks Global Creative Studio, said in a statement. “We love that this year our customers’ artistry can play a part in brightening someone’s day.”
Starbucks Corporation also caused some controversy earlier this month when it released its green “Unity” cups. Some customers thought the new cups were the 2016 Starbucks holiday cups and weren’t happy with the color change. This resulted in many SBUX customers taking to social media to complain about the green Unity cups.
