Is PewDiePie deleting his YouTube channel?

Is PewDiePie Deleting His YouTube Channel

PewDiePie announced plans to delete his channel in a video posted to YouTube on Dec. 2, 2016. The video has the internet celebrity saying that he will delete his account if he gets over 50 million subscribers. As of Friday afternoon, his channel has over 50.1 million subscribers.

PewDiePie recently sent out a message to tell his fans that he will be deleting his channel. The message was posted to Twitter Inc (NYSE:TWTR) on Thursday. All the post said is “will delete tomorrow 5pm gmt.”

This would have the channel being deleted at 12:00 p.m. Eastern Time today. However, as of 2:00, PewDiePie’s YouTube channel is still up and running. This is because the YouTube star kind of lied to his fans. He did delete a channel, but it was his secondary one. Not that main channel. In other words, it was a publicity stunt that gives him the most subscribers on YouTube.

PewDiePie has been complaining recently about how Alphabet Inc’s (NASDAQ:GOOG,GOOGL) YouTube handles showing suggested videos to users. Other YouTube Stars, such as Jacksepticeye and Philip DeFranco, have also taken issue with changes to YouTube’s algorithm.

“We change our algorithms all the time, but it’s always done to ensure that viewers are getting to watch more of the videos they love and that creators are benefiting,” a YouTube spokesperson told Ars Technica.

To answer the question of “Is PewDiePie deleting his YouTube channel?” No, he isn’t.
