Downgrades This Week – GS, WFC, YHOO, RIG, PBR, OXY, SLB

Wells Fargo (WFC), Goldman Sachs (GS), and Yahoo! (YHOO) were among the widely-held stocks downgraded by Louis Navellier in his latest fundamental stock analysis on March 1, 2010.

Wells Fargo (WFC) has recently been in the news because of court-ordered modifications for the company. Wells Fargo had 137,128 trials and permanent modifications made at the end of January, according to a U.S. Treasury report earlier this month. These court-ordered changes to loan agreements result in lower payouts for WFC. Wells Fargo was downgraded from “hold” to “sell” in Portfolio Grader this week.

Goldman Sachs (GS) came under fire last week over the role the investment bank played in helping Greece conceal its debts, which enabled the country to join the European single currency in 2001. This makes the already unpopular bank the focus of yet more bad press, and could weigh on shares. Goldman was downgraded from “hold” to “sell” in Portfolio Grader on Monday morning.

Internet icon Yahoo! (YHOO) came under fire last week after Michael Arrington of TechCrunch posted a story about “the steady, efficient decline” of the company, repeatedly citing an analyst at Thomas Weisel Partners as proof the company was doomed. This has weighed on shares, and YHOO was downgraded from “hold” to “sell” in Portfolio Grader this week.

Other notable companies downgraded this Monday include energy companies Transocean (RIG), Petrobras (PBR), Occidental Petroleum (OXY), and Schlumberger (SLB).
