Best Travel Sites for Customer Satisfaction

These days we all need to find the best deals when we plan our out-of-town trips. Travelers flock to third-party travel sites in search of the most value. These sites do offer competitive prices and the added benefit of booking air travel and car rental in one transaction. But these sites are not all the same and you need to balance the value offered with the site’s cancellation policies, booking confirmation service and hidden fees.

In the latest national quarterly update by The American Customer Index (ASCI) released last week, Travelocity topped the category with an overall satisfaction score of 79 – a 3% improvement from the previous report. In aggregate, the travel websites satisfaction scores were stable at 78. However, Travelocity showed the considerable improvement while besting Expedia (NASDAQ:EXPE) for the first time since 2004.

This was the first time since 2006 in which Expedia.com showed a decline in satisfaction scores. Of the other big four travel sites, Orbitz (NASDAQ:OWW) and Priceline (NASDAQ:PCLN) showed improvements in the latest report and are close behind with a satisfaction score of 76.

It is clear that it is pretty competitive market and these sites are not ignoring the quality of service. However, of the group, Priceline showed the biggest increase of 4.1%. Over the past few years, Priceline moved away from its “name your own price” approach toward a more conventional travel services model. Results have been mixed so far, but this year’s uptick may signal that Priceline might be on the right track.

So, when you are planning your next trip, keep these scores in mind. Happy travels.
