Rumors that Reno, Nevada was to be the home of Tesla Motors’ (TSLA) new gigafactory are now in question.
Various reports claimed that a construction project in the area was in fact for the new Tesla gigafactory. Many of the local people working on the construction site, named Project Tiger, confirmed that it was indeed for the new gigafactory, reports Torque News.
However, now there are rumors that Reno won’t be home to Tesla’s new gigafactory. These rumors are based on the fact that work on project Tiger has ended and all of the workers have been laid off. Several sources claim that the project was cancelled because it was running behind and had missed ever major milestone that was set by the client, Torque News notes.
“My husband, nephew and a couple friends were all working on that project 12hour days 7 days a week for the last month on it,” one woman told Transport Evolved. “All the people I know who were working on the project were let go today. I truly wish it wasn’t true, we need those jobs.”
