5 Worst Sectors to Avoid This Week

For the week, the worst sectors according to Portfolio Grader are the energy services, electrical equipment, construction and engineering, marine and personal products sectors.

The energy services sector looks weak, with 88% of its stocks (52 out of 59) rated a “sell”. Among energy services stocks, TETRA Technologies, Inc. (TTI), CARBO Ceramics (CRR) and Transocean (RIG) are lingering near the bottom with grades of F.

With 70% of its stocks (19 out of 27) rated “sell,” the electrical equipment sector is struggling this week. General Cable Corporation (BGC), Powell Industries, Inc. (POWL) and Graftech International Ltd (GTI) are pushing the sector down with F grades.

The construction and engineering sector is trailing behind others this week, with 64% of its stocks (14 out of 22) rated a “sell”. Empresas ICA SAB de CV Sponsored ADR (ICA), KBR, Inc. (KBR) and Jacobs Engineering Group (JEC) are all currently earning F’s.

The marine sector is lagging this week with 63% of its stocks (5 out of 8) rated a “sell”. Star Bulk Carriers (SBLK), Seaspan Corporation (SSW) and Navios Maritime Partners LP (NMM) are dragging down the sector overall, each earning a low grade of F.

The personal products sector is dragging, with 60% of its stocks (6 out of 10) rated a “sell”. Out of the personal products stocks, Herbalife (HLF), Nu Skin Enterprises, Inc. Class A (NUS) and Avon Products, Inc. (AVP) are near the bottom with F’s.
