Disney to Open Shanghai Disneyland in Spring 2016

Disney (NYSE:DIS) has announced that it will open its Shanghai Disneyland in 2016.

The Spring release it likely to help draw in more visitors than what the Winter months would. The amusement park was scheduled to open later this year, reports The Wall Street Journal.

Shanghai Disneyland will be the efforts by Shanghai Disney Resort. Shanghai Shendi, which is owned by the local government, has a 57% stake in Shanghai Disney Resort and Disney has a 43% stake in it. The exact reason for the delaying of the amusement park’s opening is unknown, WSJ notes.

“I was in China the week before last and saw amazing progress,” Robert Iger, CEO of Disney, told The Hollywood Reporter. “We just topped off our signature Shanghai Disneyland Hotel, and we’re nearing completion on iconic features throughout the park, including the largest castle we’ve ever built, and we’re getting ready to start casting the hundreds of performers we’ll need to entertain our guests.”
