Chipotle (NYSE:CMG) said that its Carnitas shortage is still going due to the length of time it takes to raise a pig.
The Mexican food chain dropped its pig supplier in January, causing a shortage of its popular Carnitas. It’s been three months since that and the popular pork product continues to sell out quickly.
Chipotle said it takes six months to raise a pig and the company’s been struggling to keep supplies up since dropping its supplier. “We don’t know for sure when we’ll be fully supplied again,” said a restaurant spokesperson.
The chain plans on adding 205 restaurants to its fold this year but the Carnitas shortage may force it to reconsider
