The H3N2 dog flu is spreading and and pet owners need to be aware of the virus.
Dogs affected by the H3N2 virus pose a risk of infecting other dogs through direct contact. They also have a rare chance of infecting cats. The virus is believed to have come from Asian bird markets, reports Washington Post.

- The virus has currently spread to 12 states: Illinois,Alabama, California, Texas, Massachusetts, New York, Wisconsin, Michigan, New Jersey, Iowa, Indiana and Georgia.
- It can’t spread from animals to humans.
- Symptoms of dog flu include a cough, runny nose and fever.
- The virus has a 3% mortality rate.
- There is no vaccination for the H3N2 dog flu.
