Ringling Bros. Circus will retire all of its Asian elephants from its traveling circus to its Center for Elephant Conservation in Florida in May. This will bring the total count of elephants at the location up to 42.

The Ringling Bros. Circus announced its plans to retire elephants from its shows in March of 2015. At the time it expected to have all of its elephants retired by 2018. However, it said it will be able to achieve its goal sooner than expected.

“Our company and our family’s commitment to save the majestic Asian elephant will continue through our breeding program, research and conservation efforts at the Center,” Alana Feld, producer of Ringling Bros. Circus, said in a statement. “This transition will also allow us to fully focus on the role our elephants have in the pioneering pediatric cancer research project with Dr. Schiffman.”
