Google (NASDAQ:GOOG,NASDAQ:GOOGL) is offering a free Chromecast through Spotify to some users.
The $35 device will be available for free if you sign up for a three-month Premium account on Spotify that costs $30/£30. The offer begins today and lasts until Sunday, Feb. 28.
The Google Chromecast allows you to stream movies, shows and whatever else is playing on your browser to an outside screen or TV. Spotify is hoping the promotion will put the online music streaming app a step ahead of competitor Apple Inc.’s
(NASDAQ:AAPL) Apple Music.
Spotify is relatively new to Chromecast so the companies are hoping that their partnership will encourage fans of music and film to take advantage of the deal. The offer is only available to US and UK customers who haven’t redeemed Spotify’s free monthly trial.
Google Chromecast has been increasing its presence among similar digital media gadgets, offering $6 of free credit on Valentine’s Day.
GOOG stock is down 1.5% Thursday. GOOGL stock is down 2%.
