Hope Solo, a U.S. soccer player, said she might not attend the Summer Olympics due to the Zika Virus.
Hope Solo said that she wants more information about the Zika Virus and how its being combated in Brazil. The soccer player said she hopes to have kids someday and is worried about the adverse health effects of the virus, reports Reuters.
Hope Solo said that she hopes the situation is under control, but that she won’t risk having to go through various test and risking the health of her possible child to play. However, she did say that her decision wasn’t made yet and that many of her teammates will likely still choose to attend the Summer Olympics, Reuters notes.
“We all know that Solo likes to be very controversial when she speaks,” Aline Pellegrino, a former member of Brazil’s female soccer team, told KGW
. “Maybe she is really worried. But if she chooses not to come to Brazil, the Brazilian national team will not be very sad, as you can imagine.”
