Nintendo’s Miitomo is the latest creation by the Japanese video game company.
The app revolves around the company’s iconic “Mii” characters, which are often used to play video games on the Nintendo Wii. Miitomo also revolves around digital interaction among friends, but it does not consist of playing video games.
Nintendo’s new creation lets you create a digital avatar of yourself — a Mii — that asks you questions about yourself. Miitomo allows you to share what you like and don’t like with your friends by visiting their Mii characters and sharing that information with them.
Your Mii also asks your friends for details about them, which they then relay to you. Your friend’s Mii characters can also visit you while you play.
One of the neatest features about Miitomo is that it gives your Mii the ability to actually speak, vocalizing what you and your friends say about each other.
In order to access Miitomo, you will need to join the “Nintendo Account” system, which opened today for preregistration. Once you choose a name for your Mii, no one else in the server can use it for their Mii.
The app is also linked to the company’s rewards program — “My Nintendo Platinum Points” — which can be redeemed within 6 months of earning them.
Miitomo will be released for Android next month.
