One easy trick for April Fool’s Day is placing a piece of tape over the bottom of a coworker’s computer mouse. This will stop the mouse’s light from picking up movement and render it useless until the tape is taken off. It’s only a minor annoyance that won’t take the victim long to figure out.

Set up a an empty pair of pants and shoes in a public bathroom stall. It’ll make it look like someone is in the stall. Hopefully there’s more than one restroom or stall at the location, or else it could get messy for someone else.

Here’s another one for a coworker or friend. Take an image of a cracked computer screen, which are easy to find with a simple image search, and make it that person’s background. They’re sure to freak out when they see it. Make sure to remove all the icons from the desktop to make it look more authentic. You can store them in another folder so that the person can easily move them back to the desktop. If you feeling nice that is.

Feeling particularly evil this year? Buy a dozen donuts and spend a few minutes of your time filling them with mayonnaise. It’s kind of like that prank from National Lampoon’s Van Wilder, but you might still have friends afterward if you keep it as just mayonnaise.

Cheap pranks are some of the best. They take little time and money, but still get good results. A good, cheap prank is placing a cup upside down with the words “Don’t lift it unless you plan to kill it,” on it. Here’s a simple prank that’s sure to catch someone off guard. If there’s a sink at your home or workplace with a sprinkler hose, wrap a rubber brand around the handle. The next person that tries to use the sink will end up getting covered in water instead.
