McDonald's Happy Meals to Swap Minute Maid for Less Sugary Honest Kids

McDonald’s is making the switch to the juice that comes with Happy Meals to draw in customers that care about health. The Honest Kids option for juice contains less sugar and Minute Maid and half the calories.

McDonad’s notes that the switch from Minute Maid to Honest Kids juice will take place in November. This won’t cause a change with its drink provider, The Coca-Cola Co (NYSE:KO), as both of the brands belong to it, reports The Chicago Tribune.

According to CNN, the decision to change Minute Maid juice out for Honest Kids wasn’t one the company made on its own. Rather, it was the vocal opinions of some parents that resulted in the company choosing to switch out one juice for the other.

This isn’t the first time that McDonald’s has made changes to its menu to better appeal to health-conscience customers. The company has recently switched from using artificial preservatives in its chicken nuggets. It also added yogurt and apple slices to Happy Meals over the last few years to make them more healthy.

McDonald’s desire to pull in customers with healthier food is likely part of an effort to combat slowing sales in the fast food industry. Fast food companies have been hurting as customers want to eat healthier food, but still order from fast food restaurants. There are also concerns as fast casual restaurants gain in popularity.

As of this writing, William White did not hold a position in any of the aforementioned securities.
