Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) has officially launched Facebook Messenger Lite on various markets.

- The app is available for Android only at the moment.
- Facebook Messenger Lite is a pared-down version of the online chatting service, making it easier for you to connect with someone if you’re strapped for data with your current plan, or if you have dodgy Wi-Fi connection.
- Facebook has no plans to release the messaging service for iOS users yet.
- It is now available in various markets, including the U.S., UK, Canada and Ireland.
- Facebook Messenger Lite was already available in more than 100 markets around the world as part of a broad test.
- It was originally designed for countries with poorer bandwidth in order to make sure they can chat with other users, especially in emergencies such as natural disasters.
- Now, it is also a great money-saving tool for people who would like to get the most out of their data, while also serving as a low-data alternative to WhatsApp, which is also owned by Facebook.
- Some of the elements of Facebook Messenger that Lite does not possess include lens effects, stories and games.
- You will also not have access to video chatting and other key components of the Facebook-owned messaging service.
FB stock gained 0.4% Tuesday.
