Walmart Same-Day Delivery to Debut in NYC

Wal-Mart Stores Inc (NYSE:WMT) is planning to offer same-day delivery in NYC.

Walmart Same-Day Delivery to Debut in NYC

Walmart says that it will be able to offer same-day delivery to customerss in NYC thanks to Parcel. Parcel is a last-mile delivery company that WMT recently acquired. It will allow the retailer to deliver fresh, frozen and perishable goods to customers in the city.

Walmart notes that Parcel already operates as a delivery service for several other companies. The retail giant says that it plans to have the company continue these services. However, it will also work for WMT to delivery goods for it in the future.

The reason that Parcel was an attractive acquisition for Walmart is where it operates. The company points out that NYC’s high density makes it a great location for same-day delivery. The retailer also has several fulfillment centers in the city and it is a strong market for WMT and Jet.com.

“Customers’ expectations around delivery and what is possible have changed significantly in the past couple of years,” Nate Faust, Senior Vice President of Walmart U.S. eCommerce Supply Chain, said in a statement. “Whatever they need and however they’d like it, we aim to provide – including the ability to offer last-minute ordering with same-day delivery service.”

Parcel isn’t the only way that Walmart is going to bring groceries to customers. The retailer is currently testing out a service in Silicon Valley that delivers groceries directly to the customer’s fridge. It has also been working with Uber for grocery deliveries and has some employees dropping off orders on their way home from work.

As of this writing, William White did not hold a position in any of the aforementioned securities.
