The new computer from Nvidia is the Nvidia Drive PX Pegasus. It is a successor to the Nvidia Drive PX 2, which is another computer built for self-driving cars. NVDA notes that this new computer offers 10 times the performance of its predecessor.

Nvidia says that its new Drive PX Pegasus computer will significantly reduce the costs and power required to run self-driving cars. This is due to its smaller size. The computer is only about the size of a license plate. Current companies have car trunks full of technology to handle the self-driving cars.

According to Nvidia, its new Drive PX Pegasus computer will allow car companies to move ahead with robotaxi services. It claims that this will allow for new startups and ride-sharing service to transport passengers without the need of a driver. It also says that this will help free up time for drivers so that they can focus on other tasks.

Here are the specs for the Nvidia Drive PX Pegasus.

  • The computer includes four high-performance AI processors.
  • This includes two of NVDA’s newest Xavier system-on-a-chip processors.
  • These two processor also contain an embedded GPU based on the NVIDIA Volta architecture.
  • The other two processors are next-generation discrete GPUs.
  • These have a focus on deep learning and computer vision algorithms.
  • It also features controller area network, Flexray and 16 other high-speed sensor inputs.
  • There are also multiple 10Gbit Ethernet connectors on the computer.

Nvidia says that the Drive PX Peagasus will be available to its automotive partners starting in the second half of 2018.
