PF Chang’s said it is investigating a possible data breach after Brian Krebs, an independent online journalist, said that data from thousands of credit and debit cards used at PF Chang’s restaurants had been posted for sale on underground websites by hackers. PF Chang’s also indicated that financial institutions and law enforcement agencies had communicated with the chain about the possible data breach, Bloomberg notes.

According to Krebs, the credit and debit cards were used at the restaurant chain between March and May 19.

PF Chang’s was taken private by Centerbridge Partners LP in 2012 for more than $1 billion.

In a statement, PF Chang’s Chief Brand Officer, Julie Elkinton, said: “P.F. Chang’s takes these matters very seriously and is currently investigating the situation, working with the authorities to learn more.” The company indicated that it will release more information about the potential data breach when it becomes available.
