NFL News

Struggling and underperforming teams get ride of coaches and general managers that haven’t been able to produce positive results for their respective teams.

Here are some of the casualties of Black Monday 2014:

  • The Atlanta Falcons fired head coach Mike Smith following a subpar 6-10 season from the team. The Chicago native coached the team between 2008 and 2014, posting a 66-46 record over that span.
  • The Chicago Bears have sacked head coach Marc Trestman following two playoff-less seasons. General manager Phil Emery and offensive coordinator Aaron Kromer were also sent packing.
  • New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan and general manager John Idzik were fired on Monday. Ryan spent five years as head coach of the Jets.
  • Jim Harbaugh is a beloved figure in San Francisco, leading the 49ers to an NFC Championship in 2012. Harbaugh left the team on mutual terms following a disappointing 8-8 season that ended yesterday.

The NFL playoffs begin Saturday, January 3 when the Arizona Cardinals and the Carolina Panthers in a clash of AFC North rivals.
