Dukes of Hazzard actor James Best passed away at age 88 on Monday.
The TV and movie star suffered a brief illness and complications from pneumonia. However, Best’s role as Sheriff Rosco P. Coltrane in Dukes of Hazzard — from 1979 to 1985 — will forever be etched in television lore.
His career spanned 65 years, including roles in The Killer Shrews, Shock Corridor and Sounder
. James Best last featured in 2013’s The Sweeter Side of Life and he will be in the upcoming film Old Soldiers.
He also opened an acting school that ran for 25 years and he taught the likes of Clint Eastwood and Quentin Tarantino.
