Starbucks Corporation (NASDAQ:SBUX) is catching flak for its “ethical” Ethos water.

A bottle of Ethos water from Starbucks costs about $2, but 5 cents from every sale goes to help children get clean water. However, it turns out that the coffee chain has been getting its Ethos water from a part of California that is currently experiencing a drought, reports Washington Post.
Starbucks argues that its Ethos water comes from a private spring and doesn’t affect people living in drought-ridden areas. However, its possible that pulling water from the spring is hurting these people because it doesn’t give it a chance to go downstream, Washington Post notes.
Starbucks’ Ethos water isn’t the only bottled drinking water coming from California. Supermarket chain Safeway Inc. (NYSE:SWY) is also getting its bottled drinking water from an area in California that is facing a drought, reports New York Post.
