Teen Wolf star Charlie Carver has come out of the closet.
The actor of the MTV show — now on its fifth season — revealed via his
Instagram that he is gay. Carver wrote a five-part essay where he wrote about the quote that inspired him to come out.
“Be who you needed when you were younger,” read a quote on an Instagram image in white letters on a blackboard. “And over the course of about-a-year, it became clear why the inspirational photo had called out to me,” Carver wrote.
“As a young boy, I knew I wanted to be an actor… It was around that age that I also knew, however abstractly, that I was different from some of the other boys in my grade,” he added.
“Over time, this abstract “knowing” grew and articulated itself through a painful gestation marked by feelings of despair and alienation, ending in a climax of saying three words out loud: ‘I am gay.'”
Carver added that coming to terms with his sexuality became more complicated when he started acting.
