One of the industrial metal commodities, copper has high thermal and electrical conductivity. Due to this high conductivity, it is used in most electronics and wiring. As electronics companies demand more copper, copper mining companies have become very prosperous in the last few years. International copper trade has also increased, especially in China, where the emerging market has demanded more electronic goods and services.
There are many ways for investors to play the copper market including purchasing shares of copper mining companies, purchasing copper as a commodity, and purchasing ETFs specializing in copper. Some of the largest copper companies to invest in are Southern Copper Corp (NYSE:SCCO) and Global Brass and Copper Holdings (NYSE:BRSS). Copper can be bought as a commodity under the ticker COMEX:HG. Finally, ETFs such as Global X Copper Miners (NYSEARC:COPX).
