It’s been a very exciting week in the market. We’ve seen big moves in various sectors – and especially in many of the stocks in our portfolios.

My focus on investing in the biggest themes out there often results in surges. But the real reward comes over time when the massive 10X, 20X, and even bigger returns come to fruition. Along the way there are plenty of ups and downs.

Two major headlines accounted for this week’s big rallies. And I talk about both in detail in today’s MoneyLine podcast.

Let me give you a quick overview…

The first announcement was a major breakthrough in the biotech industry, specifically gene editing. Gene editing is just what it sounds like. It’s the changing – or “editing” – of an organism’s genes to produce a desired outcome. This is another transformative breakthrough in healthcare that will ultimately save, lengthen, and improve the quality of billions of lives.

This week, we learned that an ongoing clinical trial of a gene editing technique called CRISPR/Cas9 showed amazing early results. In fact, they were so impressive that one of our gene editing stocks soared 17% in one day to hit a new all-time high.

For me, this is one of the biggest news stories in healthcare this year. And it’s only the beginning of what’s in store in the future. More on that in today’s MoneyLine.

The second big news story came out of the cannabis industry. Cannabis stocks finally capitulated and put in a bottom on Tuesday before engaging in a massive rally. A combination of blood in the streets and a historic vote by the House Judiciary Committee sent related stocks soaring in the second half of this week. The committee approved a bill that will legalize marijuana on a national level. It’s not a done deal, which I talk about in the podcast… and we’ll also talk more about it in tomorrow’s MoneyWire.

Stocks rebounded sharply. Canopy Growth (CGC), the largest cannabis company in the world, surged 47% from Tuesday’s low to Thursday’s close.

As you may recall, I recently travelled to Portugal to attend the Web Summit – which despite its boring name is actually the world’s largest technology conference.
