Big First Quarter: With a stronger-than-expected launch, Apple (NASDAQ:AAPLis poised to sell a record 46.5 million iPhone 5’s during the holiday shopping season, AppleInsider notes. That prediction comes Sterne Agee analyst Shaw Wu, who increased his forecast for the holiday quarter based on the weekend’s sales figures. Apple topped iPhone 4S sales records over the weekend, selling more than 2 million iPhone 5’s in the first 24 hours they were available online. Wu dismissed criticism from some technology analysts that the new iPhone is too similar to previous models, calling it a “significant update” and suggesting that some analysts are underestimating the iPhone’s appeal to consumers. During the holiday season of 2011, Apple sold 37 million iPhone 4S’s. Wu estimates that the company will sell 27 million iPhones during the current quarter.

Happy Consumers: Survey by the American Consumer Satisfaction Index (ACSI) find that Apple customers are the most satisfied of any computer maker, InfoWorld notes. Apple’s score of 86 was actually down slightly from last year’s 87. The index includes consumers with both desktop computes, laptops and tablets. ACSI found that tablet sales were rising and that makers of computers running Microsoft‘s (NASDAQ:MSFT) Windows operating system were boosting the quality of their machines in order to keep pace with Apple. ACSI also noted that customers frustrated with PCs from Acer, Hewlett-Packard (NYSE:HPQ) and Dell (NASDAQ:DELL) were migrating to Apple products. The index is based on a survey of 1,500 consumers conducted in April, May and July. Dell rose from a score of 77 last year to 81 this year, ranking second behind Apple. Acer and Hewlett-Packard shared fourth place with a score of 79.

Apple Products Scrutinized: Responding to a complaint from Google‘s (NASDAQ:GOOG) Motorola, the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) will review Apple products to see if any infringe on Motorola’s patents, CNET notes. The ITC did not reveal when it would begin its review, or when any decision might be expected. Motorola is seeking to ban imports of Apple products into the U.S. under section 337 of the Tariff Act of 1930. The two companies have been vying over alleged patent infringement violations for several years. This is Motorola’s second set of claims against Apple before the ITC. The ITC recently found that Apple did not violate three patents held by Motorola and sent a fourth patent claim back for review.
