Google (GOOG) is investing a leak that could have put close to 5 million Gmail users’ passwords and usernames online.

google-goog-gmail-leakThe leaked Gmail passwords and usernames showed up on a Russian forum in the form of a text document. According to the user who posted the information, about 60% of the passwords were valid. Google claims it doesn’t have any evidence that its systems were compromised, reports The Next Web.

After the document containing Gmail usernames and passwords was posted to the Russian forum, administrators of the website removed the passwords from the document. The list also contained many outdated Google accounts that have been seen in other lists. This means that the leak likely won’t affect 5 million users, The Next Web notes.

Google isn’t the only target of account leaks. Mail.ru and Yandex, two Russian services, also recently suffered from leaked account information. Mail.ru saw a leak of 4.66 million accounts and Yandex saw a leak of 1.26 million accounts. However, much information regarding the accounts is out of date, reports RT.
