Reports from unnamed sources claim that Facebook will be releasing a new app in the next few weeks that allows users to interact on the social media website under a different name. These sources claim that the new app is being designed so that users can talk about subjects they wouldn’t normally want their real names connected to, reports The New York Times.

The anonymous Facebook app is being headed by Josh Miller. Miller joined the company when it bought his startup, Branch. This startup was focused on creating products that allowed people to form small groups online for discussions, NYT notes.

Rumors of an anonymous Facebook app comes as the company is looking to release more standalone apps. The company has already released a separate Messenger app and purchased Whatsapp earlier this year. Instagram, which is owned by the social media company, released a new app earlier this year to some users, reports Mashable.
