Total SA (TOT) CEO Christophe de Margerie died on Monday when his jet collided with a snow plough.
Christophe de Margerie was leaving Russia via Moscow’s Vnukovo airport when his plane collided with a snow plough being operated by a drunk man. The incident also killed the three members of the plane’s crew, reports Reuters.
Christophe de Margerie’s plane was leaving for Paris right before midnight when the incident occurred. A criminal investigation has been launched and it’s been noted that visibility at the airport was 1,150 feet when the crash happened, Reuters notes.
“It is already obvious that the cause of the events was not at all a horrific tragic confluence of circumstances, which is how representatives of the airport are trying to present it, but criminal negligence by officials who could not ensure the coordinated actions of airport employees,” Vladimir Markin, a spokesman for the Investigations Committee of Russia, told BBC News.
