Google’s (GOOG) ad server suffered from a short outage on Wednesday that cost the company a good bit of money.

google-outage-googGoogle’s ad server crashed at 9:15 a.m. Eastern Time on Wednesday and stayed down for around an hour and a half. This left many websites with large white boxes that were where ads would normally be. The exact amount of money lost by the websites and the search engine is unknown, but some estimates can be made, reports Wired.

According to Wired, Google reports money made from its DoubleClick for Publishers (FDP) service under the “other” category in earnings reports. This includes several other sources of revenue. While the exact amount of this that comes from the company’s DFP services is unknown, it’s estimated that the outage costs the search engine close to $1 million.

The outage of Google’s ad server affected 55,185 websites. This is the equivalent of 315 ad network going down. In it’s own calculations, AdWeek estimates that the outage may have costs the tech company anywhere from $1.5 million to $2 million.

GOOG shares were down slightly as of Thursday afternoon.
